Primetime Emmy Award 2022 · ACE Award 2022
George Carlin's American Dream is a two-part HBO documentary chronicling the life and work of comedian and cultural critic George Carlin — one of the most influential stand-up comedians in American history. Directed by Judd Apatow and Michael Bonfiglio, co-executive produced and edited by Deep Cut co-founder Joe Beshenkovsky, the film draws on an extraordinary archive of performance footage, personal home movies, interviews, and documentary material to trace Carlin's evolution from clean-cut TV comedian to radical counter-cultural voice.
Deep Cut co-founder James A. Smith served as supervising producer.
The film received five Primetime Emmy nominations in 2022, including Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special, Outstanding Directing, Outstanding Picture Editing, Outstanding Sound Editing, and Outstanding Sound Mixing. Joe was personally nominated for three Emmy Awards. The film won the Primetime Emmy Award for Best Documentary or Nonfiction Special at the 74th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, and the ACE Eddie Award for Best Edited Non-Theatrical Documentary at the 73rd ACE Eddie Awards. It holds a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
